Bid to stall Womens’
Reservation Bill condemned Lucknow, March 8
The UPCC Chief Dr Rita
Bahuguna Joshi today lashed out at those political elements seeking to stall
the progress of the Womens Reservation Bill. In a strongly worded statement
issued today Dr Joshi said that it was deplorable that certain political
parties were behaving in such a manner. « The behaviour of some political
parties in regard to the Women's Reservation Bill is unfortunate and
condemnable. A handful of anti women and retrogressive elements have tried to
stall the bill. They have insulted the majority will of the nation. Their
argument is baseless and it is an effort to stall the bill. But we are sure
that it will be passed. Women of all hues cutting across castes and communities
are socially backward. Muscle and money power prevents them to succeed in
elections. » she said.
When passed the Bill will
prove to be a milestone in the history of women's empowerment. It will give a
level playing ground to women to contest and get elected. Women do not wish to
only contest, our demand is for representation in legislative bodies and that
is possible only through reservation. If the Bill is passed we will be among
the few nations where women representation in legistators is 33 per cent above.
We
congratulate Smt. Sonia Gandhi, the Prime Minister and U.P.A. Government for
their bold stand and political will in favour of the reservation Bill, she
said.
