UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday filed her nomination papers for Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency. She also held a roadshow in Rae Bareli before filing the nomination papers. The UPA chairperson offered puja at the Congress’ central office before starting the roadshow.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination for the Lok Sabha election from Amethi in the presence of his mother Sonia Gandhi, sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and brother-in-law Robert Vadra.
Mr. Gandhi reached the Collectorate to file his papers after a roadshow through the town along with his sister, brother-in-law and their two children in an open truck.
Surging crowds of Congress supporters walked along the truck to the Collectorate.
Ms. Sonia Gandhi was not part of the roadshow.
Mr. Gandhi is also contesting from Wayanad in Kerala. He filed his nomination there on April 4.
Amethi goes to the polls on May 6, fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election, which begins on April 11.
Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance, on Saturday launched a stinging attack on the Narendra Modi government accusing it of being dismissive towards its political and ideological opponents. Gandhi said there must be “weight” in what a government says.
Addressing People’s Agenda – Jan Sarokar 2019 in New Delhi, Gandhi said the Modi government has “destroyed the institutions” during the past five years.
“The way the soul of our nation is being trampled for the past some time through a well-planned conspiracy is a matter of great concern,” she said adding, “Regressive forces have systematically dismantled our institutions. The current government has undermined the welfare architecture that was laid down over last 65 years.”..
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said he will ensure that the Rs 72,000 payout for the poorest in the country will be given if his party is voted to power.
He said the party had spoken with numerous economists both in India and abroad and the amount had been decided in such a manner that it won’t destabilise the economy and in fact would boost it.He said Congress will also order an inquiry into the Rafale contract……
