‘Action on farmers disrespect of Gandhi’-Raj Babbar

LUCKNOW: Comparing the police lathicharge on protesting farmers in Delhi with the British attack on freedom fighters in pre-Independence India, UP Congress chief Raj Babbar said on Tuesday that BJP’s governments at the Centre and state had shown disrespect to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
This is height of hypocrisy. On one hand, PM Modi writes a blog on Mahatma Gandhi and says that latter’s clarion calls of peace and ahimsa have the power to unite humanity, on the other, his government uses force to disperse farmers who wanted to pay tributes to the Father of the Nation,” Babbar told TOI.
Babbar said a farmers’ delegation had met the Modi government in the first week of September while they started marching towards New Delhi only after September 22. “The NDA government failed to keep its promise to the farmers and compelled them to lodge their protest,” he said.
Meanwhile, Congress workers observed Gandhi Jayanti as Ahimsa Divas on Tueday.
In Lucknow, senior leaders, including Babbar, Pramod Tewari and Naseemuddin Siddiqui walked from Jhandewala Park to Hazratganj singing Ram dhun.
